Motion in the Ocean!

After learning about currents, tides, and waves, the students were excited to create their own currents in our Science Enrichment class. By adding a bag of hot rocks to a tub of cold water, they were able to create a current! When they dropped a colored ice cube into the tub, they could watch the color follow the current as the ice cube melted. Too cool!!!

Here are just a few.

What Happens When It Rains?

As a part of our study of the water cycle, we learned about what happens to rain water when it falls on the land. Students poured "rain water" through sand, soil, clay, and rocks, and learned new "TION" words! In addition to evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, students learned about infiltration and percolation!

Jamestown Settlement Field Trip!

After we finished reading Blood on the River we visited Jamestown Settlement where we boarded a replica of the Susan Constant (we even went down to the 'tween deck), heard a LOUD cannon fired off the deck, visited the Powhatan Village, and made delicious corn cakes and fired wooden muskets at the Jamestown Settlement. We finished the day with a picnic!
